This project aims at studying the causes of the war conflict in Eastern Ukraine (Donbass region). The project is particularly interested in the causes and trajectories of various groups' involvement in the war, the process of non-state armed group formation, and the everyday life of local citizens during the war. The project is based on in-depth interviews with combatants, the officials of the newly formed non-recognized Donbass government, and ordinary citizens of the region. The data was collected in 2016-2017 during the conflict.
